'It's strange': David Seaman baffled by something that happened during Nottingham Forest defeat

Nottingham Forest have been in the headlines this week and now David Seaman has had his say on the club’s decision to publicly slam the PGMOL.

The Reds went to town on the organisation that provides match officials in the Premier League after a 2-0 defeat to Everton.

Forest released a statement shortly after the game with the Toffees and it was so strongly worded thatAlan Shearer and Micah Richards took offence to it.

Yesterday it was announced that the VAR from that game,Stuart Attwell, has been chosen by UEFA to act as a VAR during Euro 2024 – further fuelling the Forest fire.

Now, Seaman is the latest pundit to wade into the situation – and there is something that he found a little bit strange.

What David Seaman has said about Nottingham Forest

Well, the debate rumbles on and now the former Arsenal and England goalkeeper has had his say on the situation.

Forest were definitely wrong to question the integrity of an individual but it feels as though the concept of VAR is badly flawed in the first instance.

However, Seaman has suggested that there is something a little bit weird about the whole situation involving Attwell and Forest.

He believes that if the PGMOL knows who supports which club, they shouldn’t be putting people in difficult situations.

Seaman said on his latest podcast, Seamam Says: “When you look at the penalty incidents they’re talking about – the third one is the worst, the other two you can understand a little bit. The third one, he said he got the ball and he didn’t at all.

“It’s strange that they allowed it, the referees, they know who they support, don’t they?”

Howard Webb has work to do in his current role

When the new PGMOL chief replaced Mike Riley it was anticipated that the standards would improve and there would be a new-found sense of accountability.

Instead, the standards have dropped off a cliff and the accountability is non-existent – with the haphazard Attwell having a game this weekend.

Seaman is right to claim that it was incredibly strange for Attwell to be doing a game involving Forest as a Luton fan.

In some ways, it’s hard not to feel a bit of sympathy for Attwell as he should never have been placed in that situation.

Forest have to use this week as a sliding doors moment in their entire season and hopefully, kick on towards some more positive results.

All is not lost just yet, but Forest have to click into gear very soon!
