‘The best I’ve seen’: Leon Osman thinks 27-year-old player has just put in his best ever Everton performance vs Liverpool

Everton have finally won a Merseyside Derby at home!

For all their possession and the chances they created, Liverpool just could not break down Sean Dyche’s solid and steadfast Toffees.

Meanwhile, the hosts were uncharacteristically proficient, taking their chances when they came whilst riding their luck at times.

But they simply will not care.

Not only is it a vital three points in their survival bid, but it has also severely dented their arch-rivals’ chances of a Premier League title. A perfect night for all Evertonians.

However, of all the outstanding performers from a magical night at Goodison Park, Leon Osman outlined his clear favourite.

Leon Osman full of praise for Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Speaking live on the Premier League website, the former Everton midfielder has been open on the highs and lows of his ex-side throughout his tenure as a pundit.

Never one to pull punches, he clearly enjoys fawning over them than he does criticising.

And that is abundantly clear through here, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin the latest target of his affection.

He actually suggested that the 27-year-old had just put in his best-ever performance for the club, noting: ‘I felt that this was the opportunity for Everton to go out there and get three points and put smiles on faces.

‘Big performances tonight, they deserve their lap around Goodison Park. The best I’ve seen Dominic Calvert-Lewin in two and a half seasons.’

After what has been arguably his toughest season to date, given that he has actually been fit but failed to find form, it felt so cathartic to see Calvert-Lewin star once again.

And what a performance it was, bullying Virgil van Dijk and his two centre-back partners throughout.

He was a beast in the air, winning six aerial duels, yet also managed to link up play with some neat turns to bamboozle the opposition.

It was the perfect centre-forward display, and was capped off perfectly with his towering back-post header to cement the victory.

Nothing less than his all-around display had earned, this late renaissance in the season has seen him actually notch six league goals now.

Should he remain fit at last, the former Sheffield United man might be the man to finally answer their prayers should they get bodies around him like they were doing all last night.

Affording support to the powerful marksman is crucial in helping him to thrive, and they certainly aided Calvert-Lewin as he spearheaded a historic win over Liverpool at last.
