Tottenham now weighing up £45m bid for ‘world class’ striker this summer

Tottenham Hotspur are now eyeing a potential £45m move for an out and out striker ahead of the summer window.

Ange Postecoglou‘s first season in the Premier League has had some bumps in the road and playing without a reliable striker has been one of them.

The Australian’s appointment in the summer raised a lot of eyebrows with many doubting where the 58-year-old could take Tottenham.

And that task was made even more difficult when Daniel Levy sanctioned the sale of the club’s record goalscorer in Harry Kane.

But going into the summer transfer window, a new striker could well be on the menu for Tottenham with the Lilywhites eyeing reinforcements ahead of an expected season in Europe.

It appears there may be one specific striker on their radar this summer and they are now eyeing a big money swoop to land him.

Tottenham now eyeing striker who could cost them around £45m

In the absence of Kane, Brazilian forward Richarlison was trusted with the responsibility of playing through the middle.

After a dismal first season at Tottenham, the 26-year-old has showed improved form with a return of 10 goals in the league this season.

However, his injury issues have seen him miss a lot of game time and that has forced Postecoglou to play Heung-min Son as the lone striker.

Although the South Korean has enjoyed a healthy return this season, it has been apparent at times that Spurs require a main focal point up top.

Now, according to GiveMeSport, Tottenham are considering a £45m bid for Brentford’s Ivan Toney to test the water.

Spurs are said to be just one of the Premier League clubs who are showing an interest in the “world class” Toney this summer.

Although some interest has faded since the turn of the year with the England international struggling to find his feet following his lengthy ban.

Chelsea have been credited as the favourites to land the 28-year-old this summer in the report, but Spurs could look to see where a £45m bid may get them.

What Harry Kane recently said to Ivan Toney after he scored for England

In the most recent international break, Gareth Southgate’s England had to cope without Harry Kane who was absent through injury.

Toney started in the game against Belgium and was able to find the back of the net from the penalty spot.

Following the game, Toney was sent a message by Kane who was watching on as he stepped up his rehabilitation.

“Great fighting spirit from the lads to keep pushing until the end. Congrats on the first England goal Ivan Toney and to Declan Rice on your 50th cap and leading the team out,” Kane said.

And in recent days, TalkSPORT host Jeff Stelling has backed Toney as the closest thing to Kane Spurs will find this summer.
