Inter Miami’s Diego Gomez ‘bummed’ after picking up ankle injury

Speaking on the Player/Manager podcast, Gressel revealed that he spoke to Diego Gomez after Saturday’s win against Nashville SC, where the 21-year-old Inter Miami star picking up an ankle injury that will keep him out for six weeks.

Given how important Gomez has been this season, the midfielder being ruled out for so long is a killer blow for Inter Miami, even with Matias Rojas now officially through the door after weeks of speculation.

Gressel said: “It’s an unfortunate one where he tries to intercept the ball and his ankle rolls over the ball and he rolls the ankle. I saw him after the game and he was really bummed out about it, he’s out for six weeks but hopefully, it’s shorter than that.

“This is a player who wants to be part of the Copa America and Olympics, so it hurts me because he’s such a good guy and hard worker, one of the good young kids who’s super humble and deserves nothing but the best, and he plays the game the right way.”

Injury problems are now getting out of hand for Inter Miami

Gomez is just the latest Inter Miami player to join the growing list of players on the treatment table, with Facundo Farias out for the year with Federico Redondo also out for some weeks, alongside Jordi Alba.

Whilst this weekend will see Leonardo Campana and Robert Taylor return to action, Inter Miami are still yet to go into a match this season with a fully fit squad, with Gomez’s injury the latest blow for the Herons.

Indeed, whilst we’re yet to reach crisis mode, questions must be raised over why so many players this season seem to be getting injured, with Gomez’s absence likely to sting for Inter Miami in the coming weeks.
