'I hope so': Rohl confirms Sheffield Wednesday 'colossus' is back in training ahead of West Brom clash

Sheffield Wednesday could welcome back one of their key first-team players this weekend.

Sheffield Wednesday head into yet another ‘cup final’ this weekend as they host West Brom in their penultimate game of the season.

The Owls finally escaped the relegation zone last weekend and will be desperate to stay above water, though failure to win could put them right back in it.

With West Brom also fighting for their place in the play-offs, it could be one of their toughest matches yet. However, their home backing will undoubtedly play to their advantage.

The Baggies could potentially confirm a top six finish this weekend, so will be at their best and hoping to end their run of only one win in six matches.

Wednesday need everyone in top form in the final two outings as they look to secure their Championship status for next season.

The Yorkshire outfit head into the tie with a number of defensive worries, with both Michael Ihiekwe and Bambo Diaby forced off against Blackburn Rovers due to injury.

Di’Shon Bernard is back in ‘full training’

The Owls have also been without Di’Shon Bernard for their last six games, but Danny Rohl has now provided a positive update on his fitness.

Speaking in today’s pre-match press conference (as per The Star), Rohl said: “Bambo trained today with us, he was in a mask,” he said. “Icky trained yesterday in some parts and today he got a rest. Dish is back and was in full training this week which is good, really good. For this I am happy and then we will see who is in the squad on Saturday.

“I hope so, he trained yesterday with full intensity and then made the full training with no reaction. Today he trained and if tomorrow he trains well then I see no problem or why he cannot play.”

The centre-back needs to go straight into the team

Michael Ihiekwe seems unlikely to start if he hasn’t returned to full training yet, and his form will be hugely missed.

However, the return of Di’Shon Bernard is massive for Sheffield Wednesday.

The 23-year-old has been a real ‘colossus‘ since joining in the summer and played a key role in the six clean sheets they won in eight games prior to his injury.

If the centre-back is ready then he should slot straight into the backline. Alongside Liam Palmer and Akin Famewo, the Owls have a very trusty defence who could be very hard to break down for the Baggies’ attack.
