Ashley Cole says £75k-per-week player at Tottenham is now ‘elite’ after one season under Ange Postecoglou

Former Chelsea and Arsenal defender Ashley Cole has now claimed one Tottenham Hotspur player is elite.

The Lilywhites have made good progress this season under Ange Postecoglou with Tottenham looking good for a Europa League finish at least.

And a number of the Australian’s signings have helped the club return to competing for European qualification.

Postecoglou has brought the likes of Micky van de Ven and Brennan Johnson in to add some serious quality to the squad.

But there are also some players that Postecoglou inherited that he has also been able to get the absolute best out of this season.

The squad he inherited from Antonio Conte over the summer needed some considerable work to bring it back up to scratch.

However, the recent Premier League Hall of Fame inductee has now admitted one player who Postecoglou didn’t sign has really impressed him.

Ashley Cole has been wowed by Tottenham player who Ange Postecoglou inherited

There have been a number of seriously impressive displays under Postecoglou this season with Spurs looking much improved.

One of those players has been the summer signing of Guglielmo Vicario who has taken the league by storm since landing over the summer.

The Italian goalkeeper arrived with not too many people familiar with his game, but he has certainly gone on to impress.

It is a real positive sign for the recruitment system at Hotspur Way now which has had a much higher success rate on signings .

One other example of the impressive recruitment done recently is the signing of Destiny Udogie who finally arrived in north London over the summer.

The Italian left-back was signed back in 2022 but has stunned the league since arriving over the summer.

Udogie has quickly become a mainstay in the Spurs side and has established himself as one of the best left-backs in the league.

And now Ashley Cole has told TNT Sports just how impressed he has been with the £75k-per-week defender in north London this season.

“You have to be better in all areas of the pitch. Technically, you have to be better than my generation of full-back, which you have to applaud and give credit to the top ones – Trent [Alexander-Arnold], Reece James, [Andy] Robertson, bombing up and down, and can do everything. Udogie at Tottenham I think is elite.”

Destiny Udogie injury latest

Over the last week, Spurs revealed the 21-year-old would now miss the remainder of the campaign after being forced to undergo surgery on his quadricep.

It is a real blow for Tottenham having some huge games remaining in their season and now having to play those without their starting left-back.

The Spurs News expect Postecoglou to play it simple on Sunday as we chose Ben Davies to replace him in our predicted XI.

It is expected Udogie will return for pre-season, but should he have any setbacks then that will be a real blow for Tottenham ahead of the new season.
