Eddie Howe now confirms Fabrizio Romano story about 26-year-old Newcastle star is true

Eddie Howe has confirmed that the Bruno Guimaraes transfer saga will not dominate Newcastle United’s summer.

The 26-year-old continues to be linked with a move away from St James’ Park, with both Arsenal and Manchester City interested in signing the Brazilian midfielder.

But it has been reported that Newcastle United are hopeful of keeping him for another year, while the fact that Joelinton is staying should also help convince Bruno Guimaraes to stick around. On top of that, he has also splashed out on a new house in the area, which fans believe is a further indication of his desire to remain at Newcastle United.

However, that will not stop the rumours, as a £100million release clause hangs over his head.

Fabrizio Romano shares transfer update on Bruno Guimaraes

And transfer expert Fabrizio Romano actually provided a very interesting detail about that release clause on Thursday night.

He took to X to report that while Bruno does have a £100million release clause in his contract, it is only active for a short period of time.

According to Romano, the clause is only valid from the last week of May to the beginning of the final week of June. After that, Newcastle would be able to negotiate whatever fee they want for the Brazil international.

Eddie Howe comments on Bruno Guimaraes story

It is certainly an interesting development, and now Eddie Howe has commented on the speculation.

He has spoke to the media ahead of Newcastle’s game against Sheffield United, and told Sky Sports’ Keith Downie that the story about Bruno’s release clause is true.

“Having that was well planned and structured by the club, in a sense that there’s a sort of finish point,” he said.

“We don’t want constant speculation, it’s not healthy for the player or for us.

“It goes without saying we want to keep him, I want to build our team around him. His form has been very good – he seems very happy and settled. He’ll be thinking about a very busy summer ahead, where hopefully we can take the team with him a big part of it. But we aren’t in control of that so let’s see.”

Good decision by Newcastle United

Howe has been very open about Bruno’s release clause and, as he says, it is very well planned by the club. It means that there will be a quick resolution to this situation.

Option one is that we sell him during that window and have plenty of time to find a replacement, while the money will be included in the upcoming accounts that must be submitted at the end of June. Option two is there is not a buyer during the £100million window of opportunity, meaning Newcastle can dig their heels for the rest of the summer and focus on a future with Bruno.

The only way things could change is if he asks to leave, but all the noise coming from the midfielder hints towards him wanting to stay.

Hopefully he does remain at St James’ Park, as he is a world class player. He is someone who Eddie Howe wants to build his team around, just like Alexander Isak. They are Newcastle’s superstars, and they have to stay at the club no matter what this summer.
