'I don't see anything but': Paul Merson says who wins on Saturday - Aston Villa or Chelsea

Paul Merson has made his weekly predictions ahead of Aston Villa’s Premier League fixture against Chelsea on Saturday evening.

Unai Emery’s men are coming off an impressive 3-1 win over Bournemouth and are well-rested after having the midweek off.

Things couldn’t be more different for Chelsea. Mauricio Pochettino’s men are coming off a 6-0 humbling against Arsenal as well as crashing out of the FA Cup to Manchester City last weekend.

For the hosts, three points have to be the aim.

Villa currently sit six points clear of Tottenham Hotspur, who take on Arsenal on Sunday lunchtime. Before Ange Postecoglou’s side even kick a ball, they could find themselves nine points adrift of fourth.

Ahead of the Villa Park fixture, Merson has shared who he believes will get the job done.

The Villa legend – who is also a Chelsea fan – can only see one outcome.

He told Sportkeeda: “I don’t see anything but an Aston Villa win and three points here will take them a significant step closer to UEFA Champions League football next season.

“Chelsea were hammered in midweek by Arsenal, and I just can’t see them putting up a fight even if Cole Palmer returns to the team. Prediction: Aston Villa 3-1 Chelsea.”

Aston Villa will be in complete control of Champions League fate if Merson’s prediction rings true

If Merson’s prediction does ring true, Aston Villa will be in complete control of their Champions League fate. Come the end of the weekend – with Spurs facing a tough test against Arsenal – a top-four finish could well be within reach.

Emery’s men should head into the fixture full of confidence. Chelsea have crumbled several times this season, which makes a fast start crucial. If Villa can land an early blow, there’s every chance of the visitors completely folding.

Of course, Chelsea’s threats must be respected, but Morgan Rogers, Leon Bailey, Moussa Diaby and Ollie Watkins will surely be too much to handle in attack.
