Report: What Feyenoord will do if Arne Slot tries to take his backroom team with him to Liverpool

Liverpool look all set to appoint Feyenoord manager Arne Slot as the man to replace Jurgen Klopp.

There are now just four games to go of Klopp’s legendary spell at Liverpool. An emotional farewell is just around the corner.

And although there will be no parade to wave the 56-year-old goodbye, he and his departing coaching team will receive a heroes farewell at Anfield in three weeks time.

After that, a new era is set to begin on Merseyside. Slot looks to have been the chosen one by FSG and with Pep Lijnders and co leaving as well, the Dutchman is going to have to find his own backroom staff.

There have already been claims that Slot will attempt to take assistant Sipke Hulshoff along with him, as well as head of performance Ruben Peeters. Beyond that though, Feyenoord may not play ball.

What are Feyenoord planning to do

If everything gets done with Slot and Hulshoff is indeed the man to come with him, then that could be good news for Liverpool.

The 49-year-old has worked with Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch and Cody Gakpo in his duel role as assistant for the Netherlands national team.

With The Daily Mail also confirming that Slot wants to bring Hulshoff to Anfield, it looks likely that that will happen.

The paper report that Peeters is ‘expected’ to rock up at the AXA Training Centre this summer, too. To get he, Hulshoff and Slot, Liverpool will apparently have to fork out around £13m.

Beyond that though, it’s reported that Feyenoord will ‘stand firm’ on any attempt from Slot to take more of their backroom team.

The Dutch champions do not want their soon-to-be former manager to ‘wipe out’ their staff and will block any further moves.

Who do Liverpool need to replace

It isn’t only Klopp and Lijnders who will be leaving the Reds at the end of the season.

They will also be waving goodbye to assistant Peter Krawietz and elite development coach Vitor Matos. Both will need replacing.

With Peeters coming in on the fitness side of things, you’d imagine that there will need to be at least two more additions to the team.

We had suggested that former Liverpool striker Fernando Torres might be one of these, although the Spaniard looks set to take charge of Atletico Madrid’s B team.

Obviously, Slot will have a whole world of options to choose from aside from Feyenoord, so filling the positions should not be a problem. Let’s see who comes in.
