'That will be so hard to do': Paul Merson predicts who'll win between Tottenham and Arsenal tomorrow

Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal will contest one of the most important north London derbies in years this Sunday.

Games between Spurs and the Gunners are always intense, but this weekend, there’s so much at stake for both teams.

Tottenham are hanging on to their Premier League top-four hopes by a threat, sitting six points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa with two games in hand.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are currently top of the table, but Manchester City have a game in hand. And when they get going in the run-in, they are virtually unstoppable.

Put simply, whichever team loses this game has (all-but) had it, in terms of their hopes for the season.

With a game of such magnitude, plenty of pundits have been previewing the game and providing their predictions for who’ll win.

Sky Sports pundit and Arsenal icon Paul Merson has now had his say, and it’s not surprising to see who he has backed for victory.

Who does Paul Merson think will win between Tottenham and Arsenal on Sunday?

Merson said on Sky Sports: “This has to be one of the biggest north London derbies for 20 years. This is a huge football match.

“I expect Arsenal to win this game because Tottenham will play gung-ho football, almost saying you have a shot and then we have a shot.

“That won’t work against Arsenal – they’ve got better players than Tottenham. They’re a better team, more of a unit and they’ll win the football match.

“Manchester City will have to stay perfect in their remaining games to win the Premier League title.

“When you look at the three remaining games, Arsenal would be devastated after responding the way they have to the Bayern Munich defeat if they couldn’t get it over the line against Bournemouth, Manchester United and Everton.

“I can’t see anything but an Arsenal win knowing how Tottenham like to play. They just open the game up and say, ‘we’ll see who can score more goals’. That will be so hard to do against Arsenal, who are a far superior football team.”

TBR writer’s prediction

It’s genuinely a very hard game to call. Both sides have what it takes to win, and both sides will be massively up for it.

However, I feel that lightning will strike twice with regards to crucial derby games this week. Everton shocked Liverpool at Goodison Park, and I reckon Spurs will do the same at home against Arsenal.

Let’s go with a 2-1 home win.
