Celtic set for double Dundee duties and Brendan Rodgers first

Celtic will be visiting Tannadice next season after Dundee United’s return to the Scottish Premiership was confirmed on Friday night.

United needed just a single point against Airdrie to confirm their Scottish Championship title win, though it was all but guaranteed thanks to their enormous goal difference advantage over second-placed Raith Rovers.

A 0-0 result on the road has ensured Jim Goodwin brings the Arabs up at the first time of asking and Celtic will now visit both Dens Park and Tannadice in Dundee next term.

Livingston look sure to be the side to be replaced at the bottom of the Premiership. Their relegation is inevitable at this point, currently sitting 12 points behind Ross County with just five games remaining.

Their dodgy plastic pitch will be a thing of the past for the Bhoys, although the visits to West Lothian have always provided a bumper Celtic away support.

Celtic’s record against Dundee United

Celtic are on a 19-game undefeated streak up against United, stretching back to a 2-1 loss on Tayside in December 2014 when future Bhoys Stuart Armstrong and Nadir Ciftci were both on target.

Celtic enjoyed a clean sweep of victories against them when they were last in the division, famously winning by a massive 9-0 scoreline in August 2022.

The trip to Tannadice will be a first for Brendan Rodgers as Celtic manager given United were languishing in the second tier during his initial spell at the Bhoys.

Playoffs could provide more changes for Celtic

Ross County and St Johnstone are also flirting with relegation this season, currently fighting it out to avoid a playoff against Championship opposition.

Aberdeen could theoretically be drawn into that battle too but currently sit five points clear of 11th place.

Fife side Raith Rovers are strong favourites to book their place in the playoff final but Partick Thistle and Airdrie will be trying their best to make it too.
