'Superb': Journalist in awe of Sheffield Wednesday defender after 'tremendous outing' v West Brom

Several names stood out for Sheffield Wednesday following their emphatic 3-0 win over West Brom in the Championship on Saturday.

The Owls now need just a point from their final game of the season away at Sunderland to stay in the Championship.

It comes after back-to-back wins for Danny Rohl and his side, both of which seeing Sheffield Wednesday score three goals; a feat not achieved by the club in the Championship since 2018.

Goals came from Anthony Musaba who was the star of the show against West Brom, then Ike Ugbo with his first goal in two months, and lastly Josh Windass with his second goal in as many games.

Musaba has now scored seven goals in the Championship this season, claiming five assists too.

And some of his goals have been massive for Sheffield Wednesday; he’s scored winners against the likes of QPR and Stoke City, with his goal on Saturday setting the Owls up for a monumental win.

The atmosphere at Hillsborough was electric, and hailed by BBC Radio West Midlands reporter Steve Hermon.

Every player deserves praise following that win.

Sheffield Wednesday fans hailed James Beadle who made a staggering eight saves throughout the game.

Though Di’Shon Bernard gave arguably the best performance that anyone has given in blue and white all season.

Bernard, 23, had missed the previous six games through injury.

But he returned to full training in the week and returned to he XI to face top six hopefuls West Brom.

It arguably couldn’t have been a more difficult game to return in, given the opposition and the stature of the game, but Bernard was immense.

As per Sofascore, the Jamaican international made 8 defensive actions (joint-second most of any Sheffield Wednesday player (with 4 clearances, 2 interceptions, and 2 tackles).

He also ended the game with the second-highest pass success rate of any player; 88% behind Ugbo who recorded 89%.

During the game, journalist Joe Crann posted on X:

The next step for Di’Shon Bernard

After performances like his one against West Brom, and after an overall very impressive season following his release from Manchester United, the world seems to be Bernard’s oyster right now.

He’s out of contract in the summer and if he leaves, he’ll no doubt have endless suitors in the Championship.

But if Sheffield Wednesday stay in the division, which is looking increasingly likely, then the Owls may have the first say on Bernard.

They gave him a contract when he was at something of an impasse last summer.

And under Rohl, Bernard has really shone after a stop start few years, so he may feel that his development is best served with Wednesday.

If the Owls can get him on a contract then in a couple of years, they could have a really valuable asset on their hands.
