‘Deeply unhappy’: Emery spotted ‘shouting’ at one Aston Villa star for what he just did v Chelsea - journalist

Aston Villa endured a difficult night at Villa Park on Saturday as Unai Emery’s side were forced to share the points with Chelsea, a 2-2 draw that saw the Villa boss particularly unhappy with one player.

Aston Villa were denied their third successive win in the Premier League by Chelsea on Saturday evening, as the Midlands club drew 2-2 with Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Things were going so well for the hosts in the first half, as Villa went ahead after just four minutes of play thanks to a Marc Cucurella own goal.

Morgan Rogers doubled the Villans’ lead just before the interval, putting Unai Emery’s side 2-0 up at half-time, a lead that was taken by the Blues in the second half.

Chelsea were undoubtedly the better side in the closing 45 minutes, with Noni Madueke and Conor Gallagher levelling the scoring in what felt like an inevitable scenario as Villa’s foot slipped off the gas.

It wasn’t the hosts’ best performance in recent weeks, seeing Emery express his frustrations on the sidelines, with one player appearing to be the target of criticism.

Unai Emery was not happy with John McGinn during Aston Villa 2-2 Chelsea

When the scoreline was still reading 2-0, the Villa boss was unhappy with the actions of John McGinn and appeared to shout at the club’s captain, as relayed by journalist Jacob Tanswell.

The journalist explained that Emery was ‘deeply unhappy’ with the Scotland international for deciding to play a cross-field pass that was intercepted.

Tanswell reported that the Spaniard was initially ‘shouting’ at McGinn but calmed down when the midfielder offered his apologies.

There were many times during the contest that the boss was visibly unhappy with his side’s actions, with his anger at McGinn a warning to a level of sloppiness that eventually saw Chelsea creep back into the game.

Aston Villa were careless in the second half against Chelsea

Moments after Emery’s rant at McGinn, Villa conceded the Blues’ opener, as Gallagher dispossessed Douglas Luiz near the penalty area before Madueke scored.

The Villa manager was right to be agitated watching on from the sideline as Villa showed a level of carelessness throughout the second half, leaving Villa Park stunned as Axel Disasi thought he’d won the game in injury time.

Fortunately, the goal was disallowed due to VAR intervention however, Emery will likely scold his players in the dressing room for their lack of concentration throughout the fixture, which so nearly ended in defeat.
