'Didn't even speak about him': Shaun Wright-Phillips thinks Chelsea star went under the radar in Villa draw

Noni Madueke was probably Chelsea’s standout player in their 2-2 draw with Aston Villa last night.

He started Chelsea‘s comeback after the Blues went 2-0 down, scoring just after the hour mark.

Noni Madueke was a threat overall, with his excellent dribbling once again on display.

According to WhoScored, the winger completed six dribbles on the night, more than any other player.

However, there were also some other good performances, especially compared to Tuesday when Mauricio Pochettino‘s men were battered 5-0 by Arsenal.

Shaun Wright-Phillips suggests Chelsea star went under the radar in Aston Villa draw

While Chelsea may not have conceded five goals this time, they were still quite leaky at the back.

Former Blues player Shaun Wright-Phillips, though, still thinks one of their defenders had a good game.

Speaking about Thiago Silva after the match, the Premier League pundit said: “He’s 39 and he played that well that we didn’t even speak about him.”

The Brazilian was unable to finish the game because of an injury, and Pochettino has not been able to confirm when he will be back.

Thiago Silva and the rest of Chelsea’s backline

Chelsea’s defence, especially of late, has become a bit of a problem.

Again, they conceded five goals to Arsenal in the same month that they let Manchester United and Sheffield United put another five past them combined.

It does not look like Chelsea’s backline is going to be an issue for Silva for much longer, though.

The Brazilian’s contract expires this summer and there have not been any talks about a new one. Midfielder Matheus Martinelli is desperate to see Silva join him at Fluminense.

Chelsea still have a few games to go before the end of their season, so Silva’s spell in west London is not over just yet. The centre-half and his team-mates have a big game against Tottenham Hotspur next that they need to win if they are to have any hope of qualifying for European football next term.
