'I asked...': Journalist explains what Danny Rohl has now said about his Sheffield Wednesday future

Danny Rohl has provided a one word update on his future at Sheffield Wednesday.

Danny Rohl looks on course to keep Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship after an unbelievable 3-0 win over West Brom.

Goals from Antony Musaba, Ike Ugbo and Josh Windass pushed the Owls up to 20th place – three points above the relegation zone.

Wednesday now need a single point on the final day of the campaign to avoid the drop for a further season.

The club sat seven points adrift when Rohl joined the club back in October, and he has since worked wonders to completely transform a struggling team.

Sheffield Wednesday fans are now desperate to see the German coach stay at Hillsborough past the summer, with Sunderland one club that have been eyeing him up.

Dejphon Chansiri has been urged to offer Rohl fresh terms on his deal as they look to keep hold of him, but his future has so far remained unclear – just like a majority of the squad too.

Danny Rohl addresses his future

The 34-year-old was asked about his future following yesterday’s victory, and he gave a straight forward one-word answer.

When asked if he had spoken to Chansiri about his future by journalist Alan Biggs, Rohl just said ‘no’.

What happens to Sheffield Wednesday if he leaves?

Like the players, the club are likely to wait to open contract talks until their league status is confirmed next weekend.

Rohl may not decide whether he wants to stay in Yorkshire until he knows whether he will be managing in the Championship.

However, that shouldn’t affect Chansiri’s plans. The Thai owner should be trying to persuade Rohl to stay no matter where they are in the football pyramid.

Wednesday will undeniably be in huge trouble again next season if they lose him, while they could well challenge for a place in the play-offs if Rohl is given a full pre-season and summer transfer window to help build his squad.

The Owls would be eleventh in the Championship if the campaign had started when he was appointed – nine points from sixth and 13 points above the bottom three.

Rohl feels like the only manager that could help Wednesday reach its potential, while they could just face another relegation scrap if he leaves – assuming they stay up.

It could be the perfect ending to a turbulent campaign for Wednesday, but it will feel like all for nothing if they are forced to find a new head coach.
