'The next step': Rohl drops hint on his Sheffield Wednesday future with veiled Chansiri message

Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl has just dropped the biggest hint on his future at the club so far.

It’s no surprise that Rohl is now a man in demand at Sheffield Wednesday.

His incredible turnaround at the club, capped by a 3-1 win at Blackburn Rovers last weekend has drawn praise from all across the footballing community.

The job is far from done though with two huge games left; West Brom visit Hillsborough this weekend before Sheffield Wednesday finish their season away at Sunderland.

And it’s the Black Cats who have been linked with a summer move for Rohl.

Earlier in the year, it was revealed that Sunderland had shortlisted Rohl ahead of them hiring a new manager in the summer.

Rohl is linked alongside names like Reims boss Will Still, and former Sheffield United and Barnsley manager, and former Owls player Paul Heckingbottom.

And Rohl recently spoke out on links to Sunderland, saying before the Swansea City game last month:

“Honestly, I said this some weeks before, that my focus is 100 per cent on the next eight games. What happens with the next game is the difficult one and all the rumours around me are not important. They are rumours, everybody can speak and write something. My focus is here at Sheffield Wednesday, my focus is on my team and my focus is to achieve our goals with this club.”

And speaking in his pre-West Brom presser on Thursday afternoon, Rohl gave arguably his biggest hint yet about how he feels going into the summer.

Asked about his plans for the future, he said:

“At first I think we should play the next two games. And then we are looking in the future. I think I see a lot of potential, especially with our massive fans… I see a team here who has a good mentality. But we have to do some things right in the summer. I think if we do this, and we have the chance to do it and I can change some things here in the summer, and we get the opportunity for this, then we can think about the next step for this club.”

It’s all down to one man now

For Sheffield Wednesday, Rohl staying or not seems to depend entirely on owner Dejphon Chansiri.

He holds all the power still.

And Rohl’s above comments seem like a direct message to Chansiri: ‘Show me that you’re ambitious and ready to spend, or I’m gone’.

That’s what Rohl appears to be saying to Chansiri, and it’s not all that surprising with Rohl having hinted at the club needing new facilities on the past.

Rohl has an elite coaching background and he has the ability to get a lot out of these players, like he has done this season.

But he wants to go all the way to the top with Sheffield Wednesday and he can only do that if he has a competent owner, which of late, Chansiri has not been.

Though if the controversial Sheffield Wednesday owner can support Rohl, and give him all he needs to stay and be successful, then he might eventually redeem himself.
