Fish and chip shop, The Fryer’s Club in Newark, Nottinghamshire looks at ways to give back to the community

An initiative by a business to feed the community on the cheap — over the course of almost a week — has now come to completion.

Fryer’s club, a fish and chip shop in Newark operated the campaign from Monday (April 22) to yesterday (Saturday) which saw a large amount of food offered at half-price.

The shop is located in Cardinals Square, on 30 Jersey Street.

The idea first came from the owners of the family run business to support the community three years ago.

It has proven to be especially popular during the current cost of living crisis.

“The campaign was a big success,” said one of the owners, Sunil Mehta.

“We love living in Newark and this has been a bit of a thank you to the community for their support of our business.

“It is a hard time for everyone with how expensive food is at the moment and we wanted to help people.

“We do this every year.
“This is the third year that we have done this and it has proven to be very popular.”

Sunil said that several hundred people had visited the shop during the half-price offer.

He added that the shop is looking at doing more similar campaigns in the future including a half priced chips campaign in September.

“We try to do something like this a few times a year,” said Sunil
Sunil added that the shop uses several social media platforms and encouraged people to follow the business to find out about more discounts as they become available.
The feedback about the campaign has led to several positive reviews about it on Google.
