Report: Crystal Palace have now made a bid to sign 24-year-old, he’s been compared to Cheick Doucoure

Crystal Palace are already turning their attention towards the summer transfer window, with the club reported to have made an offer to sign a 24-year-old target.

Things are progressing well for Oliver Glasner at Crystal Palace as the Eagles extended their unbeaten run in the Premier League to four games on Saturday.

The South Londoners earned a valuable point against Fulham last time out, building on their recent form as the new manager continues to put his stamp on the squad.

The outlook is finally starting to look rosy at Selhurst Park, in what has been a lacklustre season, and now, the summer transfer window could prove to be fundamental to how Glasner’s plans at Palace progress.

While there has been some anxiety over the futures of stars Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze, reports have also linked the Eagles with some potential arrivals, with one name currently circulating.

Crystal Palace ‘made an offer’ to sign 24-year-old Batista Mendy

As reported by FootMercato, Palace ‘made an offer’ to sign 24-year-old Batista Mendy from Turkish club Trabzonspor.

Though the Frenchman is contracted to the Super Lig side until 2027, the report details that the midfielder could be in for an ‘eventful summer’, with the Eagles named as one club that are admirers of his talent.

FootMercato adds that Palace are ‘discussing with the agents’ of Mendy and ‘hopes to finalise’ a potential deal in the ‘coming weeks’.

That being said, the 24-year-old is also said to be in the sights of other clubs, making his future an interesting narrative to follow ahead of the transfer window.

Would Batista Mendy be a good signing for Crystal Palace?

A defensive midfielder, Mendy has all the attributes to be a player ready to challenge in the Premier League, recognised as a player who is strong in transition and gifted with an innate ability to read the game.

As highlighted by scouting site Total Football Analysis, the 24-year-old’s statistics suggest that he would be a strong suitor for Crystal Palace, with him comparable to Selhurst star, Cheick Doucoure.

Not only does the 6 foot 2 midfielder boast a combative edge, but he’s also noted to be fast in transition, as well as having strengths in playing progressively through passes and carries, as per Total Football Analysis.

For Palace, Mendy could be a strong signing based solely on his defensive capabilities sitting ahead of the back line, with his numbers in Ligue 1 last season telling of his presence in the engine room.

As per FBref, the Frenchman ranked in the top 1% of midfielders in the French top flight last term for his average of dribblers tackled per 90, hitting an impressive percentage of 69.8%, a level that very few accomplished.

The report is encouraging regarding Palace’s interest, with it poised to be an interesting summer for both Mendy and the Eagles, with the player having the attributes to thrive in the Premier League.
