Merson says Crystal Palace have three "matchwinners", predicts "entertaining" four-goal thriller vs Newcastle

Crystal Palace face Newcastle on Wednesday night in a game which Oliver Glasner will be confident about, now Paul Merson’s made a prediction.

For Oliver Glasner, things have quickly changed at Selhurst Park after some early struggles. This change has come in the form of two consecutive wins against elite opposition.

Beating Liverpool seems to have been the moment Crystal Palace needed as it has inspired this past weekend’s thrashing of West Ham.

Now, despite a tricky run-in remaining over the final five games, there isn’t a team we think is above Palace which makes for an exciting end to the campaign.

But we’re firmly focused on the visit from Newcastle on Wednesday, and so are the pundits, with Chris Sutton already predicting a win for Palace.

Now, Paul Merson has had his say on the game, here’s what he’s predicted.

Paul Merson pinpoints three matchwinners for Crystal Palace

Merson has been sharing his predictions for game week 34 of the Premier League on SportsKeeda and in doing so has predicted Palace’s game against Newcastle.

But before his prediction, he’s pinpointed three players who are matchwinners for the Eagles. Here’s what he’s said.

“They have three matchwinners in attack with Eberechi Eze, Michael Olise and Jean-Philippe Mateta and in my opinion, that’s the best front three in the bottom half of the Premier League table.”

This is high praise from Merson but there’s really no debate as the trio have proved in their games together recently that they’re unmatched, perhaps even in the whole league at the moment.

Just this past Sunday we saw them effectively win the game on their own with two goal contributions each, and better still they cost a combined £34m. Bargain.

Merson predicts the result vs Newcastle

After lauding the magical frontline of Palace, Merson then turned his attention to how he sees the game playing out with his prediction.

It’s a testament to the work Glasner has done that pundits are now struggling to bet against Palace no matter the opposition.

Here’s what Merson has predicted.

“Newcastle United would have looked at this one as a winnable game a couple of weeks ago, but the situation has changed dramatically.

“I’m going for the two sides to share the spoils in an entertaining contest.”

He ended by stating he thinks it’ll be a 2-2 draw.

With Palace already pretty much safe already, a point here all but confirms it with four games remaining which will be a relief for Glasner after how it looked two games ago.
