Piers Morgan admits he was ‘spectacularly wrong’ about one Arsenal star after Spurs win

Broadcaster and Arsenal fan Piers Morgan has now admitted that he was completely wrong about one of the Gunners’ players.

Arsenal were triumphant in the North London derby on Sunday as they beat Tottenham Hotspur 3-2.

The Gunners were clinical in the first half. A Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg own-goal gave the visitors the lead with just 15 minutes on the clock, before Bukayo Saka doubled their advantage.

Kai Havertz steps up for Arsenal against Tottenham Hotspur

Mikel Arteta’s side won back possession on the edge of their own penalty area and played the ball to Kai Havertz. The German then held up the ball in his own half, before picking out Saka with a long range switch of play. The Hale End academy graduate produced an immaculate first touch to bring the ball under his spell and then drove forward before finding the bottom corner of the net.

Before the break, Havertz put the Gunners 3-0 up. The German forward found space in the box to connect with a Declan Rice corner and nodded in from close range. This strike marked the former Chelsea man’s 13th goal of the season.

Arsenal fans were impressed by Havertz on Sunday, as he showed once again that he can provide an extremely effective presence at the top of the pitch.

Havertz has already been hailed as a big game player this season, and he showed once again in this all-important North London derby clash that he can be relied upon to deliver at crunch time. This was a must-win game for Arsenal, who cannot afford to drop any more points this season if they realistically want to stand any chance of being crowned Premier League champions.

Kai Havertz silences his critics with Arsenal form

The 24-year-old is now a popular figure at the Emirates Stadium, but he certainly had his doubters earlier on in the campaign after his arrival from Stamford Bridge in the recent summer transfer window. He arrived in North London short on confidence and struggled to shine on a consistent basis in the opening stages of the season.

Havertz came in for plenty of criticism early on in his Arsenal career. However, he has impressed on a regular basis in recent months, and has now established himself as Arteta’s first choice striker.

Piers Morgan has now confessed that he has been proven wrong by the forward. Writing on X after the Gunners’ win over Tottenham, he said “You’ve been brilliant Kai, proving all the early doubters – including me – spectacularly wrong.”
