‘Very fast’ striker spotted at North London derby after claims Tottenham in talks to sign him

Tottenham Hotspur fell to defeat in the North London derby on Sunday afternoon, failing to overturn a 3-0 deficit despite a spirited fightback.

You sometimes get a sense that it just isn’t going to be your day and Tottenham supporters probably had that in the first half against Arsenal.

The Gunners took a 3-0 lead thanks to two set pieces and a counter-attack, leaving Ange Postecoglou frustrated as Mikel Arteta put plenty of men behind the ball.

Cristian Romero hit the woodwork, Micky van de Ven had a goal narrowly ruled out for offside, Timo Werner went off injured – the first half was just about as frustrating as it gets.

Tottenham did show some fight after the break and pulled it back to 3-2 thanks to goals from Romero and Son Heung-min, but it just wasn’t meant to be.

Arsenal had fewer shots and less possession but ultimately made it count, leaving Tottenham with two defeats in a row heading into the meeting with Chelsea on Thursday.

Santiago Gimenez visits Tottenham

Tottenham fans may feel that Sunday’s display could have been aided by the presence of a number nine.

Son battled away as a striker but didn’t really get much out of William Saliba or Gabriel Magalhaes and questions linger over his right position under Postecoglou.

Tottenham have managed to get by without Harry Kane by having multiple attackers chip in, but it may be time to land another striker this summer.

Fans will therefore be interested to learn that Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez was in attendance on Sunday.

Feyenoord had no fixture this weekend and some of their players visited England with defender Lutsharel Geertruida watching the West Ham United v Liverpool clash.

Gimenez posted a photo from the Tottenham v Arsenal game on Instagram, making the trip to North London amid strong rumours surrounding a move to Spurs this summer.

Gimenez to Tottenham, the latest

The Mexico international has been linked with Tottenham for a long time now, so his presence on Sunday will set tongues wagging.

Reports in March suggested that Tottenham have made contact to sign Gimenez ahead of the summer transfer window.

Spurs have been scouting Gimenez for a while and he has played a key role under Liverpool-bound Arne Slot at Feyenoord.

We do though have to point out that Gimenez has been struggling for goals of late with his early-season form really tailing off.

Gimenez has managed just four goals and one assist across 18 games in 2024, having been on fire earlier in the campaign.

Tottenham will soon have to decide whether Gimenez is ready for the Premier League or whether this is just a slump in form.

Hailed as ‘really fast’ by Dirk Kuyt, Gimenez may have only been at Sunday’s game to take in a big match on a free weekend but he is a name we would expect to be prominently linked to Spurs ahead of the summer window.
