'One of my best': 21-year-old player says he is brilliant at scoring goals in Newcastle United training

One of Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United players is adamant that he will soon score his first goal for the club.

Newcastle United have had no problem scoring goals this season, and they bagged another five on Saturday as they beat Sheffield United 5-1 at St James’ Park. That means they have scored 13 times against the Blades this season, who have now been relegated to the Championship.

Alexander Isak is the Magpies’ top scorer, and took his tally to 23 with a brilliant brace at the weekend. His first was a spectacular finish, but it was all about his incredible movement.

He continues to shine in front of goal, while Callum Wilson found the net for the first time since December – and believes he should have scored a second.

In total, Newcastle have scored 74 Premier League goals this season. Only Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool have scored more.

Newcastle United regular is yet to score this season

In all competitions, Newcastle United have had 20 different goalscorers this season. We have even seen teenagers Lewis Miley and Lewis Hall find the net.

But one player who is yet to score is Elliot Anderson. In fact, he has never scored a senior competitive goal for the club.

The 21-year-old has spoke to the club’s official website about his inability to score, even though it is one of the things he is best at in training.

What Elliot Anderson has said about not scoring yet

“It is (playing on my mind), but I don’t want it to too much, and get stressed about it and stuff,” he said.

“It’s going to come. In training, it’s probably one of my best attributes, scoring goals, so I’m just waiting for it to happen because when the first one happens I feel like they’ll come.

“I feel like the fans are just as desperate for me to score as myself, and I’m just hoping it’s at St. James’. It’s something I want to add to my game, goals and assists, and I think they’ll come.”

Goals will come in black and white for Anderson

It is interesting to see Anderson note how good in front of goal he is in training. Perhaps he just is not getting good enough chances in competitive action.

He did have one on Saturday, with his blocked header resulting in a Ben Osborn own goal which the announcer initially gave to Bruno Guimaraes – despite the Brazilian not even nearly touching it!

Anderson also has the backing of Eddie Howe, who recently stated that he expects the local lad to find the net for Newcastle United soon enough.

Goals are going to come for Anderson. He was prolific in pre-season, with the midfielder scoring four times. As he says, the fans are desperate to see him score, and it would be amazing for it to happen against Brighton in a couple of weeks, which is our final home game of the season.
