Aston Villa set to make millions thanks to Europa Conference League form

How much Aston Villa are set to make thanks to their fantastic Europa Conference League form that has seen them reach the semi-finals.

Unai Emery’s side are set to face their last hurdle over the next fortnight if they want to reach Athens at the end of the campaign.

Thanks to Emi Martinez’s heroics against Lille, Villa have now reached the Europa Conference League semi-finals where they are up against Greek side Olympiacos.

The Villa Park faithful will have real belief that they can go on to win this trophy by the end of the season. The Villians are yet to win a major silverware this century. However, with Villa’s first team in sensational form as well as Emery’s prestige in European competitions, everything is pointing towards further success.

When clubs enter a European competition, the prize money available is always a big plus.

Villa have taken full advantage of this throughout the campaign. As a result, before the semi-finals, they have almost brought in £10 million.

According to Birmingham Live, Villa’s victory over Hibernian in the qualifiers brought in the biggest windfall. The Birmingham outfit were awarded £2.5 million for reaching the group stage after their 8-0 aggregate victory over the Scottish side.

Following this, the club were awarded another £1.85 million for performance-related bonuses in the group stages. This was after the side saw out four victories, one draw and one defeat. On top of this, for winning their group, Villa won another £554k.

As a result of their success, Emery’s side bypassed the play-off round and went straight into the round of 16. This won Villa another £512k as they prepared to face Dutch giants Ajax.

Villa once again overcame this challenge to progress to the quarter-finals, winning the club £850k.

Their most recent victory over Lille has now seen that prize money double with Villa racking in another £1.7 million for qualifying for the semi-finals.

So far, Villa have earned £7.966 million. However, there is nothing to suggest why Emery’s side can’t add to this over the next month.

If Villa were to get past Olympiacos, the Birmingham outfit would win £2.6 million for reaching the final.

Here, they face either Club Brugge or Fiorentina at the AEK Arena. Overcoming either of these sides to lift the trophy would earn them another £1.7 million.

This takes the total up to £12.266 million. However, on top of this, £20 million of TV revenue will be split up upon the conclusion of the competition with Villa set to take a fair chunk.

While the Europa Conference League has been a fun journey for Villa fans this season, it could just be a taster of what is to come.

The club have now officially qualified for at least the Europa League after matchday 35 but Emery will certainly have his eyes on the Champions League.

The Birmingham outfit has sat fourth for the majority of the season and are now three victories away from securing Champions League football.

If they can get this over the line, the riches that are on offer in Europe’s most prestigious competition are 10-fold that of the Conference League.

With FFP becoming an overarching issue for Villa, the more prize money they can bring in, the better.
