March Bears triumph in Cambs County Junior Cup showpiece at Cambridge Rugby Club

March Bears completed a memorable league and cup double at the weekend.

Bears overcame a strong St Ives 2nds side 28-16 to lift the Cambs County Junior Cup at Cambridge Rugby Club.

Their cup triumph came on the back of winning promotion to Eastern Counties League 1 West after going through the whole campaign unbeaten.

The final remained in the balance until the final few minutes, but March held their nerve to add some more silverware to the trophy cabinet.

Number 8 Bryn Pughsley opened the scoring down the wing before Sam Howat slotted home a penalty to make it 8-0.

Bears were now in full flow and captain Billy Dean went over the line under the posts for a second try in the 13th minute which was converted by Howat to put them 15-0 up after the opening quarter.

St Ives responded by kicking three penalties before Howart handed the Bears a nine-point advantage going into the break by kicking a penalty on the stroke of half-time.

A converted try from St Ives at the start of the second half saw them reduce March's lead to just two points.

Player-of-the-match Ben Pyle crashed over the whitewash for a crucial try but this was his last contribution as he was injured in the process.

Howat then kicked an enormous penalty to seal the deal to clinch a league and cup double for the club.

The Bears again give a huge thank you to all of their sponsors.

These include Savage Haulage Ltd, Evolve, Bretts Transport, Neil Cawthorn Accident Repair, Knowles Transport and EKML Ltd.
