Sean Dyche must not play 27-year-old Everton player vs Luton Town, it’d be far too risky - opinion

With Everton travelling to Luton Town on Friday, a clash that a few weeks ago was poised to be a crucial relegation decider, there is hilariously now nothing on the line for the visitors.

Having achieved survival with Saturday’s win over Brentford, leapfrogging them in the process too, Sean Dyche has rightly garnered widespread praise for his role in leading a threadbare side severely lacking confidence to easy safety.

His team selection could reflect their lack of pressure this weekend too, taking absolutely no risks with any players who might not be 100%.

And given the gruelling campaign they have all endured, that could rule a few out.

However, atop that list must be Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who has been one of the club’s most notorious when it comes to suffering from injury.

Having been effectively glued to the treatment table over the last two years, the spirit and quality he has shown to get his career back on track is remarkable, and a pleasure to see.

The effect he has when playing has been there for all to witness of late too, with key performances throughout April against relegation rivals and their Merseyside adversaries Liverpool.

But, forced to miss Brentford through illness, and Chelsea through injury, there is no need to rush him back for what will likely be an intense match as the Hatters still chase down safety.

Of all the decisions Dyche will need to make for Friday, this should mark a no-brainer.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is too important for Everton

Although he may have endured a relatively barren spell in front of goal throughout the year, Calvert-Lewin has still cemented his importance to Everton this season.

After all, the 27-year-old remains by far the most well-rounded striker at the club, with his finishing somewhat unreliable, but his all-around game phenomenal.

He is a monster in the air, with his hang time simply unparalleled. Yet he boasts quick feet too, and when he gets running is hard to keep up with.

However, such physical prowess has seemingly left him somewhat fragile, with last campaign being one particularly ravaged by injuries.

The Englishman managed just 15 starts in the Premier League, and subsequently scored a mere two goals.

But this season, and particularly this month, he has stood up once again to drag his side over the line. Not only does he rank in the top 5% for aerials won per 90 when compared to other strikers across Europe, but his goals against Burnley and Liverpool effectively secured both wins and a pivotal six points.

Having two of their last four matches, it is a risk Dyche simply does not need to make with safety already assured.
