‘A good hunch’: Chris Sutton suggests Man Utd could hire manager who’s not worked in three years

Manchester United will likely be looking for a new manager this summer.

Indeed, it feels like Erik ten Hag’s departure from Old Trafford is inevitable this summer, and if United are to sack their manager, they need to find the right replacement.

Of course, the Red Devils have been linked with a number of managerial options from Graham Potter to Gareth Southgate, but now, Chris Sutton has warmed to the idea of another manager coming in.

Indeed, speaking on BBC 606, Sutton had a discussion with a caller who suggested that Joachim Low could be a good option for the club.

Joachim Low to Manchester United

Sutton and the caller spoke about the idea of the former Germany manager coming to United.

“I’m saying I think I’ve found the ideal manager. I follow international football religiously,” One caller said.

“He was assistant for Germany under Klinsmann from 2004 to 2006, then he was the manager from 2006, he won the World Cup in 2014 and took them to the Euros semi-finals in 2016. According to a German newspaper he desperately wants to return to management.”

“That’s a good hunch, I like that,” Sutton said.

Joachim Low is a winner

This would be a very interesting appointment.

The funny thing is that as successful as Low was with Germany for such a long time, we don’t really know that much about him as a manager.

Indeed, he’s not managed at club level for 20 years now, and it’s been 10 years since his 2014 World Cup success.

Since then, he’ll have surely evolved his style and his tactics, and it would be interesting to see how he’d get on at a club like United.

One thing is for sure, Low is a winner, and he would bring the right mentality to United if he were appointed.
