Romano and Galetti give West Ham new hope over Portuguese duo

Italian journalists Fabrizio Romano and Rudy Galetti have given West Ham new hope over landing one of a Portuguese duo.

In just over two weeks’ time David Moyes may be preparing to manage West Ham for the last time.

Speculation has been rife the Hammers and Moyes will part ways after four-and-a-half successful years.

He has done a superb job at the London Stadium.

But the manager has also failed to future-proof the West Ham squad, leaving the club facing another big rebuild this summer.

And results have tailed off this year with just four wins from 22 games in all competitions.

With last season’s Premier League struggles and a growing number of fans fed up with the manager’s approach as a backdrop, all roads point to a parting of the ways.

Who will replace the vastly experienced Scot, though?

Well West Ham have been linked with a plethora of managers since the hiding at Palace nine days ago.

Fourteen to be precise.

So far, though, Portuguese duo Ruben Amorim and Paulo Fonseca are the only names that have really captured the imagination of the West Ham fanbase.

West Ham continue search for Moyes replacement

Amorim caused a media frenzy by flying to meet Hammers chief David Sullivan for talks last week.

There has been claim and counter claim made about those talks.

But with Liverpool, Barcelona and Bayern Munich no longer options for Amorim, West Ham fans are holding out hope the Sporting boss could yet be Moyes’ successor.

Amorim’s compatriot Fonseca is the other name Hammers fans are open to.

The former Roma boss is about to lead Lille into the Champions League.

He was interviewed for the West Ham job back in 2018 but was unsuccessful.

Fonseca, who is out of contract at the end of the season, appeared to leave the door open for a move to the Hammers when he spoke about his future at the weekend.

The problem is, like with Amorim, other clubs are also sniffing around him such as Milan and Marseille.

Many supporters have been dismayed by links to Julen Lopetegui.

But now a couple of Italian journalists have delivered positive updates.

Fabrizio Romano and Rudy Galetti have given West Ham new hope over Portuguese duo Amorim and Fonseca.

Speaking on Caught Offside, Romano said he does not believe we’ve heard the last of Amorim coming to the Premier League.

Romano states he could still see Amorim leaving Sporting this summer for a job with an English club.

He did say he doesn’t necessarily believe that will be West Ham following the collapsed talks.

But despite that the fact of the matter is West Ham looks likely to be the biggest job open to Amorim in the Premier League this summer.

“Amorim would love to work in the Premier League. He’s still hoping for that solution, I’m told,” Romano said.

“Amorim will decide his future in the next weeks but he’s surely hoping for a job in the Premier League, despite Liverpool and West Ham talks collapsing.

“I think there is a 90% chance to see David Moyes leaving West Ham at the end of the season. This is the feeling. Then we have to wait for the formal steps and the formal meetings at the end of the season.”

If Amorim is a hard and fast no for West Ham, though, the man who seems to be second choice among most supporters looks more attainable.

According to Galetti, West Ham very much see Fonseca as a key candidate to replace Moyes.

Sources have confirmed to the TEAMtalk source that West Ham are the Premier League side most interested in Fonseca.

“He has been included among the top names to replace Moyes, whose farewell is practically certain,” Galetti said.

“Fonseca is open to evaluating any type of project: it is important to remember that his dream is to coach in the Premier League and this could certainly be an advantage in the negotiations with the Hammers.”
