Spurs told they have ‘egg on their face’ due to one thing they did after Arsenal loss

Former Chelsea striker Chris Sutton has now taken aim at Tottenham Hotspur for one thing that happened as Arsenal celebrated their North London derby win.

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was emptied of home fans quickly after the final whistle on Sunday as the Arsenal players celebrated with their travelling supporters.

This was a huge win for Mikel Arteta’s side. It kept the Gunners in with a real shout of being crowned Premier League champions, and also confirmed back-to-back North London derby victories away from home.

This victory also brought up a personal milestone for Arteta, as it was his 100th Premier League win as Arsenal boss. The Spanish coach was on the pitch with his players, celebrating with the travelling fans, and also made time to share a huge with David Raya after the goalkeeper had been guilty of a horrendous error during the match.

Win v Tottenham Hotspur keeps Arsenal title dream alive

The Gunners are not in control of the title race as things stand. They need Manchester City to drop points, but this win kept the pressure on Pep Guardiola’s reigning champions.

Being in the heat of a title race at this stage in the campaign is an anxiety-inducing experience for fans. The hope is agonising, the prospect of missing out on glory can be unbearable to comprehend.

In the moments after their North London derby triumph was confirmed by the final whistle, though, there was only joy amongst Arsenal supporters. However, those in charge of the PA system at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium did the best they could to drown this jubilation out.

Spurs slammed for music stunt after defeat to Arsenal

As the Arsenal players walked over to their ebullient fans, the music in the stadium was turned up to a deafening volume. The song of choice, called Munich, by a band called Editors, was also pertinent, as it was surely picked as a reference to the Gunners’ recent Champions League exit at the hands of German giants Bayern Munich.

Whilst these antics did little to diminish Arsenal fans’ glee, Chris Sutton has still taken issue with the ploy. Speaking on the It’s All Kicking Off podcast, the pundit said “Why did they do that? I think, things like that, you just get egg on your face. Just accept defeat gracefully, go home and hide.”

It is hard to accept defeat against your bitter local rivals gracefully, and Spurs fans may well feel that their side deserved to take something from the game as they threatened to mount an extraordinary comeback having been 3-0 down at half-time.

However, Arsenal held on for the 3-2 win, and mathematically confirmed that they would finish ahead of Ange Postecoglou’s side in the Premier League table this season in the process.
