Report: Club could now sell their ‘extraordinary’ player to Liverpool for £51m this summer

Liverpool look set for a busy summer ahead as they plan for life without Jurgen Klopp.

The German is set to depart at the end of the season and Arne Slot has been lined up as his replacement.

TBR confirmed last week that an agreement in principle had been reached with Feyenoord, as well as personal terms with the Dutchman.

An announcement could come this week and Liverpool will already be making plans for the summer.

The Reds spent much of the last summer transfer window rebuilding Klopp’s midfield, which saw the likes of Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and Naby Keita head out the door.

Wataru Endo, Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister were snapped up but Liverpool continue to be linked with moves for another fresh face in the middle of the park.

Liverpool could sign ‘extraordinary’ midfielder this summer

According to Tutto Juve, Atalanta’s Teun Koopmeiners remains of interest to Liverpool.

The Dutchman has been long linked with a switch to Anfield and the chances of him landing at Juventus this summer are ‘falling’.

Indeed, the Italian outlet claim that Koopmeiners could end up joining Liverpool for a fee worth around €60 million (£51.2 million).

Koopmeiners impressed at Anfield

Liverpool will be familiar with Koopmeiners after the midfielder was part of the Atalanta side which picked up a 3-0 win at Anfield earlier this month.

The 26-year-old put in a solid performance on the night and is currently enjoying the best spell of his career in Italy.

Indeed, the ‘extraordinary’ midfielder has been involved in 19 goals in 43 appearances for Atalanta this season.

He would also represent a versatile option for Liverpool’s new manager as he’s able to operate in multiple roles in the middle of the park.

If Slot does complete his move to Anfield as expected, it will be intriguing to see if Liverpool firm up their long-standing interest in Koopmeiners. Mats Wieffer is one of many players who has excelled under Slot at Feyenoord and may be better suited to Liverpool’s needs.

The 24-year-old operates at the base of midfield while Koopmeiners has mainly played in a more advanced role in Serie A this term.
