'In the mix': Chris Sutton believes 24-year-old Chelsea sold could now be in the PL Team of the Season

Pundit Chris Sutton has now claimed that Chelsea may have sold a player who could be considered one of the best in the Premier League right now.

Chelsea were extremely busy in the last transfer window in terms of signings, and that of course resulted in a number of players moving on.

In order to facilitate club record deals for Moises Caicedo, they had to part ways with a number of first team stars such as Mason Mount and Mateo Kovacic.

Another player they parted ways with was Kai Havertz, with them more than happy with the fee they received for him from Arsenal.

2024 in particular has been a far more impressive year for the German though, and he summed it up with a brace against the Blues last week.

He sits on 12 Premier League goals this season, however only found the net once in the ten Champions League matches they played.

Sutton has been convinced though that the 24-year-old is actually one of the better players in the league, telling ‘It’s all Kicking Off’ that he believes he can be seen as someone deserving of a place in the Team of the Season.

He said: “I mean, Havertz, he must be in the mix now. If you were to pick a first XI Premier League team, Havertz must be in the mix to get into that now. He has been such a valuable player.”

While there is no doubt Havertz has lifted his levels in recent months as part of the Arsenal side, the Blues will be more than content with the player they brought in to replace him.

Cole Palmer has been a revelation in his first real season as a regular first teamer, sitting on 20 Premier League goals so far this season.

He is likely to be a crucial player in the run in to the end of the season, where Chelsea need to pick up a number of points to secure a European finish for next year.
