Newark Town Sunday Reserves win Keith Cartledge Memorial Trophy over RHP Reserves in Nottinghamshire

The first Newark Alliance Cup was played for and won this season by Newark Town Sunday FC after they defeated RHP Reserves 2-0 in the Keith Cartledge Memorial Trophy.

Newark Town Sunday Reserves, formerly Curry’s FC defeated AFC Closterworth 4-1 to make it to the final against RHP Reserves.

RHP Reserves had a slightly more difficult semi-final in the journey as they drew 2-2 against The Three Gables before defeating the side on penalties.

The final saw a change of venue from Collingham to the YMCA due to poor weather but despite this, a good-sized crowd turned up to watch.

It was a case of the top two teams in the Newark Alliance Division Two going head to head in the final.

RHP Reserves were probably slight favourites due to the fact that they are league leaders in the competition.

While the side had plenty of chances to get on the board, Newark Town proved to be more clinical as they made their goalscoring opportunities count.

Newark went into the break up 1-0 before doubling the deficit in the second-half to become the 2023-2024 champions of the Keith Cartledge Memorial Trophy.

Goals by Stefan Farcasanu and Marian Stefan proved the difference against the green and whites at the YMCA.
