Parents left toddlers in car to attend tasting at N.J. winery, cops say

The parents of two toddlers are facing charges they left their kids in the car to attend a wine tasting at a Warren County winery, authorities said.

The parents, a 43-year-old man and 37-year-old woman from Phillipsburg, each are charged with fourth-degree child cruelty and neglect.

The incident happened Feb. 25 at the Four Sisters Winery, 783 Route 519, in White Township, authorities said. The Warren County Prosecutor’s Office announced the charges Monday afternoon following an investigation.

Authorities say the children, ages 2 and 3, were left in the car for about 20 minutes. AccuWeather shows there was a high temperature of 41 degrees and a low temperature of 21 degrees forecast on Feb. 25 at the Lehigh Valley International Airport, just outside Allentown.

While en route to the reported incident, responding officers learned the vehicle left the scene. The car was later found in Harmony Township that same day and the children were not harmed, authorities said.
