Big Antonio Conte twist emerges as West Ham's new manager search heats up

A big Antonio Conte twist has just emerged, as West Ham United continue to look for a new manager.

With David Moyes treading on very thin ice at the London Stadium, a big Antonio Conte twist reportedly could see West Ham head down a specific managerial route this summer.

The 61-year-old Scot will almost certainly leave the Hammers at the end of the season, with the club apparently eyeing up the likes of Paulo Fonseca to replace him.

The 2023/24 campaign is one that has got away for West Ham unfortunately. Things looked so bright at the end of December and at the time, talk of sacking Moyes was merely background noise.

However, things really have taken a turn for the worse over the past few months.

The Hammers have won just four out of our last 22 games in all competitions since the turn of the year.

Moyes clearly has to go at the end of the season. Amazingly though, he hinted on Saturday that he could still be in the dugout at the London Stadium when the 2024/25 campaign begins.

The style of football that the Scot implements really isn’t conducive with us making genuine progress as a team over the next few years.

In order to make the jump up to the next level, the appointment of an elite manager with innovative ideas is needed.

We need someone to come in who is renowned for getting his teams to play really exciting football, but also has a history of achieving success at a high level.

However, is that the route the owners are ready to go down? Or will they play it a bit safer with their next managerial appointment?

So, it seems as though the Italian former Tottenham boss has just just thrown a big spanner in the works for us.

And not in a good way…

According to a report from Libero, the AC Milan fans are revolting against the potential appointment of Julen Lopetegui, and they are demanding Antonio Conte be made the new manager instead.

The Hammers have allegedly made a lucrative offer already to the 57-year-old.

I totally get why they’re revolting – Lopetegui really isn’t an inspirational appointment and I don’t want him at the London Stadium either.

However, AC Milan appointing Antonio Conte may well see Lopetegui move to West Ham in the summer.

And that is a twist that I really didn’t want to see.
