'This is important': Danny Rohl issues 'crucial' claim ahead of Chansiri meeting at Sheffield Wednesday

Danny Rohl has made a ‘crucial’ claim ahead of a busy summer for Sheffield Wednesday.

Sheffield Wednesday are closing in on their final game of the season, in which their performance against Sunderland could determine their fate in the relegation scrap.

The Owls now sit three points clear of the bottom three, but defeat this weekend would leave them relying on results elsewhere.

No matter what league they are in next season though, the club and its fans will be desperate to see Danny Rohl stay put amid interest from the Black Cats.

Wednesday will hold meetings with the German over his future, though he has admitted that will wait until after their trip to the Stadium of Light.

Rohl was asked what assurances need to be made for him to remain at Hillsborough, while he has also explained what is ‘crucial’ going into the new season.

Danny Rohl explains what is ‘important’

Speaking to The Star, he said: “I need a clear strategy of what we can do and what we want to do.

“I am very hungry for more and when you feel the atmosphere in the stadium you can feel that everybody is hungry for more at this club. The experience of the Championship shows us we must be prepared for a tough season and I think the biggest mistake you can make is to think it is good enough what we are doing now.

“Now we must make the next step and for this we must bring all the things together on the table and we must speak about this. We have a clear direction on what we have to improve and if we can do this I think we can go into a good pre-season, this is important. And then we go into the next season.”

He added: “We will have some meetings in the following days.

“This is important. We are still not safe, this is the crucial thing. In the last weeks and months we have had more and more points and this is important, the experience from the games, the Championship and what it means.

“You see how quickly it goes in one direction or the other and we have to do the right things. For this we have to use the summer, to not do everything in the last weeks. It is important we go straight into the next season and we are prepared immediately.”

What will persuade the German to stay?

Danny Rohl‘s claims make it sound very much like he wants to stay at Sheffield Wednesday if they stay up.

The 34-year-old is ‘hungry for more’, and if they can avoid relegation and Dejphon Chansiri can ensure he will be backed financially, then it would be a huge surprise to see him still leave the club.

The Owls clearly have bags of potential under Rohl and if he is able to bring in his own players, then he could work wonders.

We can already see the positive impact that Ike Ugbo, James Beadle and Ian Poveda had on the team and that was with no cash, so if the Thai owner was able to open his wallet, then we could certainly trust Rohl to strengthen appropriately.

It will likely all depend on this weekend’s results though, because the meeting with Chansiri may go very differently if they are facing a campaign in League One.
