Speaking on The Game Football Podcast, Gregor Robertson has been discussing Tottenham’s midfield, and he’s noted how Spurs’ midfield would be completely transformed if they had a player like Declan Rice.
Declan Rice would transform Tottenham
Robertson spoke about the midfielder’s impact at Arsenal and the impact he would have at Tottenham.
“There’s an element of that. Their holding midfield players, Bissouma has fallen off a little bit and he didn’t play in this game. That’s such an important role, you can see how Declan Rice transformed Arsenal and the same would be true for Spurs I think, they have two athletic centre-halves, full-backs who are great on the other side of it, but the most important player would be a holding midfielder,” Robertson said.
Tottenham need a Declan Rice
Robertson is spot on, a player like Rice would transform Tottenham, and we can’t help but feel that Spurs need a player of this ilk through the door this summer.
Of course, signing a player like Rice isn’t easy. Arsenal paid £105m for the England international this summer, and you can’t just go out and find a player in this mould every transfer window.
Spurs have plenty of work to do this summer, but perhaps their main focus should be on signing a defensive midfield option.
