Cambridge United release seven members of the squad – including Ryan Bennett and Lyle Taylor – and place another four players on the transfer list

Seven members of the 2023/24 squad will depart Cambridge United when their deals expire this summer, while four contracted players have been made available for transfer.

After Sky Bet League One survival was confirmed on Saturday, head coach Garry Monk has been holding a series of meetings with all of the playing staff to discuss their futures.

And it can now be revealed that Ryan Bennett, Harrison Dunk, Brandon Haunstrup, James Holden, Saikou Janneh, Fejiri Okenabirhie and Lyle Taylor are all to be made free agents.

Meanwhile, Jack Lankester, Adam May, Jubril Okedina and Lewis Simper – all of whom have contracts that expire in 2025 – have been placed on the transfer list.

James Brophy, Mamadou Jobe, Elias Kachunga, Sullay Kaikai, Will Mannion, Glenn McConnell and Amaru Kaunda (U18) are all out of contract, but they have been offered fresh terms, with decisions on those set to be made in due course. Midfielder Jordan Cousins has an option to extend his deal and conversations are currently ongoing with the 30-year-old.

Danny Andrew, Paul Digby, George Hoddle, Zeno Ibsen Rossi, Michael Morrison, Jack Stevens and George Thomas are all under contract and look set to be part of Monk’s plans moving forward, alongside Liam Bennett, who has had his 12-month option triggered by the club – as have youngsters Dan Barton, Brandon Njoku and Louis Chadwick.
