What they found was far more shocking than they could have imagined. Four babies, two boys and two girls, all frozen solid, were discovered inside shoe boxes covered in tin foil.
The infants were determined to be full term, between 37 and 40 weeks of gestational age, and their umbilical cords and placentas were still attached.
DNA tests confirmed that the babies were full siblings. The medical examiner's autopsy, however, revealed no signs of internal or external trauma, and the cause of death for all four babies was listed as "undetermined."
Additionally, there were no signs of food, milk, or formula in their stomachs, leaving investigators with more questions than answers.
The Investigation Unfolds
The investigation into Alexis Aldamir's mysterious case began with piecing together her background. Born in Maryland, Aldamir moved to Amherst, Massachusetts, in 1971 at the age of 17.
She eventually settled in Boston, purchasing the South Boston apartment where the babies were found in October 1983. Aldamir worked for an accounting firm in Boston for over 40 years and is described as a hard worker who rarely took vacations.
Her co-workers, however, were unaware of her pregnancies.

"Investigators eventually learned who the likely father of the babies was and that he had died in 2011. They secured an order in June 2023 to obtain his DNA, which, after testing, revealed that he was indeed the father of all four babies found in Aldamir’s apartment," said Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden in a report obtained by Universal Hub.
DNA tests confirmed his paternity, and it was discovered that Aldamir had given birth to a baby girl in April 1982. The father's name was not included on the birth certificate, but two parental rights surrender forms were found and signed by the father.
These findings led investigators to conclude that Aldamir had a total of five children with the same man, giving one up for adoption and the other four being found in her apartment in 2022.
The Challenges of Bringing Charges
As the investigation progressed, investigators faced numerous challenges in determining whether to bring criminal charges against Alexis Aldamir. To charge a homicide, it must be proven that the victims were alive, and the cause of death must be determined by the medical examiner.
In this case, however, the babies' status at birth could not definitively be determined, and no cause or manner of death was found. The autopsy showed no signs of trauma or injuries, further complicating the case. Additionally, the father of the infants had passed away, rendering him unable to be charged with any crimes.
Furthermore, Aldamir's cognitive ability was questioned during the interviews. When questioned about the babies found in her apartment, she appeared confused and demonstrated a lack of understanding about her surroundings and the investigators' questions.

A probate lawyer confirmed that Aldamir would likely be unfit for trial due to her mental state. Based on these factors and the evidence obtained throughout the investigation, prosecutors made the difficult decision not to bring the case to trial, as they believed they would not be able to pursue charges ethically.
