West Ham stunned as player with 109 Hammers appearances reportedly wants to join London rivals

Ben Johnson is set to sign for one of West Ham United’s Premier League rivals this summer, on a free transfer no less.

West Ham full-back Ben Johnson will be out of contract at the London Stadium in the summer, after failing to agree terms on a new deal with the club.

The 24-year-old burst into the scene with West Ham back in 2019 when he was handed his debut by Manuel Pellegrini.

Back then, it seemed like we had produced a really highly talented young player.

Over the next couple of years, Johnson really impressed in the left and right-back roles for the Hammers.

However, he has regressed badly since the start of the 2022/23 campaign, and with his deal up at the end of the season, he’s set for a move to pastures new…

Ben Johnson to sign for West Ham United’s Premier League rivals

It’s a shame that Johnson hasn’t developed into the player we all thought he would be.

He possesses exceptional athleticism but that is often wasted because of his other poor attributes.

Now he’s seemingly set for a move across London…

The Daily Record claim that Johnson is set to snub a move to Rangers in order to join Crystal Palace this summer.

He has been awful for West Ham over the past 18 months or so, let’s be honest here.

Sure, he’s made a few impressive substitute appearances over the past couple of months, but the cold hard truth of the matter is that he’s nowhere near good enough to be playing Premier League football.

His better performances recently have actually come in an auxiliary midfield role, and there obviously isn’t a place for him there in the long-term.

The 24-year-old’s shocking concentration levels and his poor positional awareness means that he’s a Championship player at best in my view.

He’s made 109 appearances for the Hammers in total, but I don’t think he’ll add to that tally (Transfermarkt).

Ben Johnson seems set to join Premier League club Crystal Palace from West Ham this summer. Let’s just hope I’m not made to eat my words!
