'Rather have McDonald’s': Typo-laden Trump fundraising dinner invitation ridiculed online

Former President Donald Trump faced much mockery Wednesday morning after word spread of a major fundraising event scheduled amid the Republican presumptive nominee's criminal hush money trial.

New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman shared news on X Wednesday morning of the Trump fundraiser — to be hosted in New York City by billionaire businessman Howard Lutnick — and it was promptly ridiculed.

Attorney George Conway, a vocal Trump critic, quipped the closure of one New York City correction facility would send Trump's guests flocking to another.

"Now that @CorrectionNYC has finally closed the Tombs," Conway wrote, "will there really be enough space at Rikers for this event?"

The venue does not appear on the invitation, but it does say that donors will be invited to dine with Trump in Manhattan on May 14 at costs that range from $100,000 to $844,600 per person.

Co-hosts include New York City grocery store mogul John Catsimatidis, Jared Kushner's parents Seryl and Charles, and Steve Witkoff, a real estate investor who testified in Trump's $464 million civil fraud trial last year.

The fundraiser will take place amid an ongoing criminal trial in which Trump stands accused of falsifying business records to cover up hush money payments paid to adult film star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 presidential election.

Trump has pleaded not guilty and repeats a claim without evidence that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, a locally elected public official, is taking orders from President Joe Biden to prevent his election-year rival from campaigning.

Critics of this theory note Trump has spent much of his trial off-time playing golf.

Readers of Trump's fundraiser invitation had a series of questions, opinions and jokes to share with Haberman and the public.

"What happened to Mr. I don’t need outside funding, I can self-fund?" asked documentarian Jim Campbell.

"I’d rather have McDonald’s for dinner thanks," replied X user Darren Walsh.

"With farts as a starter before he falls asleep," added Günther Schuster.

Several eagle-eyed readers noticed the invitation priced "Host Committee" tickets at "$250,00 [sic]."

"You'd think they'd look for the typos before sending it out," wrote Seth.

"There are typos," added Jeff Feinblatt. "Look at host committee amount."

"They can’t even get the zeros right on the host ticket cost," quipped X user Laura.

That was not the price tag that caught @CommonSense's eye.

"Entry fee is $100,000 per attendee?" they replied. "If they paid me a hundred grand, I still wouldn’t go."
