Graeme Souness makes Celtic title admission that will surprise the Parkhead support

Three points is all that separates Celtic and Rangers at the top of the Scottish Premiership and if the last few weeks have taught us anything is that the complexion of this title race can change very quickly.

Celtic had a very healty seven-point lead heading into December and the winter break when results against Kilmarnock, Motherwell and Hearts allowed Rangers to knick in and go top.

But as we witnessed over the last 14 days, anything can happen after Philippe Clement‘s team lost the plot by losing to Ross Couty and drawing with Dundee which allowed Celtic to take a firm grip of the title race heading into the top-six split.

And with another Glasgow Derby still to come, there is still plenty to play for, albeit the game is at Celtic Park.

Graeme Souness admits Celtic are title favourites

Graeme Souness was asked about the upcoming derby between the two teams and whilst he refused to give up on the title, he did make an admission that will surprise the Celtic fans.

Souness said [talkSPORT], “I went to the Old F*rm game at Parkhead a few weeks ago, ended up losing 2-1 and I thought there was nothing between these two teams.

“And then the results went their way and put themselves in the box seat. Losing to Ross County and drawing with Dundee has now made Celtic favourites.

“But you know, Rangers have to win every single game and score a lot of goals and what it boils down to is winning the rest of their games scoring goals and having to go to Parkhead to beat them.

“And it’s not an easy game going to Parkhead, for anyone.”

In fact, Souness made three points that I felt were surprising. The obvious one is that he makes Celtic favourites.

Coming from a big Rangers man, I would have expected him to remain bullish about his teams chances becuase he certainly was when he was accusing Chris Sutton of bias.

Secondly, it seems like Souness was hinting that getting a result at Celtic seemed out of this Rangers teams reach.

Again, even for Souness this is a surprise. Whilst Rangers haven’t beat Celtic in meaningful game for some time now, the derbies can go either way regardless of form.

And the third point is that in the 2-1 defeat he felt there was nothing between the two teams. I don’t know what game Souness was watching but up until Tavernier scored that free-kick, Celtic were 2-0 up and cruising.

League duty resumes on Saturday where Brendan Rodgers will be hoping that a win agianst Hearts will put six points between us and Rangers and heap more pressure on the Ibrox club ahead a tricky Kilmarnock fixture in Glasgow.
