'What I'm hearing from sources': Fabrizio Romano has just shared Virgil van Dijk update amid 'shock' rumours

Liverpool are set for a new era this summer as Jurgen Klopp prepares to step down as Reds manager.

However, Liverpool have already made considerable progress in terms of not only finding a replacement for Klopp, but also at boardroom level.

Michael Edwards has joined FSG as CEO of Football, while Richard Hughes is set to become Liverpool’s new sporting director.

Edwards and Hughes, alongside Arne Slot, will have a busy in-tray at Anfield, with action needed over a number of squad players.

Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold are out of contract next year, so decisions will need to be made on their futures.

Over the past few days, some speculation started doing the rounds claiming Van Dijk was a target for Borussia Dortmund, as reported by The Mirror (via Bild).

However, Fabrizio Romano has taken to his YouTube channel to pour cold water on these rumours.

What has Fabrizio Romano said about Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk?

Romano said: “Virgil van Dijk… reports in Germany and Holland the last few days, saying that maybe he could go to Borussia Dortmund, a shocking move to Borussia Dortmund.

“What I’m hearing from sources is that this is not true. Borussia Dortmund are focused on different names.

“They will try to keep Jadon Sancho, they will try to keep Ian Maatsen, as I told you many times.

“But Virgil van Dijk and Borussia Dortmund is not something real or concrete at this point. Contacts are not taking place.

“And so Virgil van Dijk and Dortmund at the moment it’s something that is not happening.”

Liverpool must get Virgil van Dijk future sorted as soon as possible

Although rumours of Dortmund targeting Van Dijk have been swiftly rubbished by Romano, it goes to show that, when a player’s contract is running down, speculation is bound to run wild.

Rumours have also begun doing the rounds regarding Bayern Munich apparently being after Van Dijk, as per Sports Zone.

Liverpool must quickly come to a resolution regarding Van Dijk’s contract, and whatever they decide, hopefully it won’t drag out all summer.
