'All the noises': Dom Howson rates Sheffield Wednesday's chances of doing one thing if Danny Rohl stays

Dom Howson has issued his verdict on Sheffield Wednesday’s chances of signing four key players if they can keep Danny Rohl.

It was only a few weeks ago that Hillsborough was very bleak, with Danny Rohl and a long list of players likely to leave Sheffield Wednesday when they were inevitably relegated.

However, the Owls have quickly turned things around and are now unbeaten in four, claiming two big wins on the bounce.

The team now need a single point from their final day outing at Sunderland this weekend, and they will be able to prepare for a second consecutive campaign in the Championship.

Things could quickly turn sour though, with Rohl’s future at the club still not guaranteed.

The German has confirmed that he is set for a meeting with Dejphon Chansiri over his future, but if the chairman can’t offer him assurances then he could well opt to leave Yorkshire.

Rohl isn’t the only person the Owls could try to keep too, with practically half the squad potentially on their way out.

While they will look to tie down many of their players to new contracts, there has also been talks of them looking sign Ike Ugbo, James Beadle and Ian Poveda again – if they can stay up.

How likely are James Beadle, Ike Ugbo & Ian Poveda to return?

Journalist Dom Howson has now rated the chances of the trio of summer signings happening.

Writing on X, he said: “If #SWFC do go on to retain their Championship status, it will be interesting to see if Danny Röhl looks to re-sign James Beadle, Ian Poveda and Ike Ugbo next year. All three have played big parts in their revival. All three are good ages and with plenty of room to grow.”

He added: “I think they would have a chance with all of them as long as DR stays. All the noises are that DR is planning for next season. Those three definitely bring a lot to the group.”

Danny Rohl knows his stuff

Danny Rohl had very little say in who was included in his squad this season, having joined months after Xisco Munoz had brought in 12 new faces.

He did have some say in their arrivals in January, and they have proved to be a huge success.

Beadle has seven clean sheets in 18 games, Ugbo has seven goals and Poveda was just simply ‘magic’ before he got injured.

Rohl clearly favours the three of them, and if they can all play a key part in keeping Wednesday up, then it would not be surprising if he wanted to bring them back.

Though even if they don’t return to Hillsborough, the head coach has proven we can certainly trust his judgement in the transfer market.
