'Think they should': Troy Deeney thinks Nottingham Forest have a right to be seriously annoyed

Troy Deeney has now delivered his verdict on the state of refereeing in the UK after the recording was heard from match officials during the Nottingham Forest defeat to Everton.

Forest were incensed after the 2-0 defeat to the Toffees. The club were so incensed that all hell broke less after the game.

After the game, Forest released a statement slating Stuart Attwell who had been on VAR, with Alan Shearer criticising the message.

Forest are just a point above the relegation zone in the Premier League with just three games remaining of the 2023/24 campaign.

Now, after hearing the recordings from the Forest defeat, Deeney has delivered a pretty damning assessment of the officials in this country.

What Troy Deeney has said about match officials after Nottingham Forest incident

Well, it’s fair to say that the former Premier League striker hasn’t held back when giving his verdict on the recordings that have now come into the public light.

Attwell – the fourth man on the day – was heard to call the foul on Callum Hudson-Odoi nothing more than a tussle.

That doesn’t sit right with Deeney and he genuinely thinks that Howard Webb has got a big job on his hands.

He told TalkSPORT: “We all see it, I will try not to go on a rant but when you listen to what Howard Webb said about improving the standard of VAR – or whatever – just improve the standard of refereeing.

“Anthony Taylor has got that wrong no problem – he will admit it – but how can you have someone watching it and thinking that’s a tussle? We’ve all seen it. There are three decisions. I think they should definitely have had two – one is questionable, the Reyna one.

“We’re going to this place now where the referees are just looking after each other and the on-field decision now is all about looking after your mate. We seem to just mess it up all the time with VAR.”

Deeney is spot on and Webb needs a gameplan

If the Premier League is the best league in the world then why do we not hold our match officials more accountable for their errors?

It’s now come to light that Attwell made a glaring error in the game involving Forest and Everton, so why has he had three games Premier League since?

The whole system just doesn’t make sense and it’s easy to see why Forest have got so wound up of late.

Decisions will be made wrong in a game of football, that’s just life. But, with the technology we have, it’s ludicrous just how many mistakes are being made.

Deeney is right to defend Forest – and it seems pretty clear that the Reds should have had two penalties against Everton.

Football was better when human error with the officials existed and Webb now has a big challenge on his hands when it comes to his match officials.
