’Now I think’: Gerard Pique says he’s changed his mind over Pep Guardiola vs Alex Ferguson debate

Gerard Pique has shared his verdict on who he thinks is better out of Pep Guardiola and Sir Alex Ferguson.

The former Barcelona and Manchester United defender has experience of what it’s like to play under both managers.

Despite only having a short spell at United, the Spaniard made 23 appearances under Ferguson.

Then at Barcelona, he featured in 183 games with Guardiola, which is more than any other manager he was coached by throughout his playing career.

Now though, the World Cup winner has shared his thoughts on which of his two former managers he thinks is better.

In a recent video posted on the BBC 5 Live Sport X account, the former defender was participating in a this-or-that challenge where he had to pick one out of two options that were put to him.

When asked to pick between Guardiola and Ferguson, Pique had this to say on the subject.

He said: “Another tough one. I would say when I started at Barcelona I would have said Ferguson, but now I think that after all of what he did – Pep.”

Guardiola vs Ferguson

In his 27-year spell in charge of United, Ferguson won 895 of the 1490 games he overlooked, drawing 323 and losing 272, resulting in numerous titles being won including 13 Premier Leagues and two Champions Leagues.

After winning three league titles each with Barcelona and Bayern Munich, Guardiola then took charge of City in 2016 where he has gone on to win 14 major titles.

Having won the second Treble of his managerial career last season, the 53-year-old could follow that up by seeing his side potentially become the first team to win a fourth Premier League trophy in a row and a consecutive FA Cup.

While the Scotsman’s achievements at United cannot be dismissed, we feel that Guardiola’s success in three of Europe’s top leagues make him a more impressive coach.
