Report: West Ham United set to rival Atletico Madrid for signing of 'outstanding' 24-year-old

West Ham United have one eye on the fast approaching summer transfer window, as a rumour emerges.

West Ham have enjoyed a steady season in the Premier League and still have an outside chance of finishing in the European spots.

The Irons currently reside in eighth, four points adrift of seven-placed Newcastle United and five from Manchester United, who occupy sixth.

David Moyes has come under huge scrutiny at times, with many questioning his brand of football, but it appears club chiefs are planning to back him in the market this summer, as one transfer rumour has surfaced.

It has come to light, that West Ham are eying a move for Real Betis’ ‘outstanding’ left-back Juan Miranda ahead of the summer transfer window, as per Estadio Deportivo.

The 24-year-old is also attracting interest from LaLiga giants Atletico Madrid as well as Real Sociedad.

Clubs in the Premier League are keeping tabs on Miranda, with Wolves, Crystal Palace and Brentford all mooted with a move.

Miranda has enjoyed a productive campaign under the stewardship of former Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini, as his side occupy seventh in Spain’s top-flight.

The former Barcelona defender can also operate as a centre-back, which would provide great versatility to Moyes’ ranks.

AC Milan, Benfica and Porto are keeping an eye on developments.

No brainer for West Ham

The potential signing of Miranda would be a no-brainer for West Ham, as he’s set to become a free agent at the end of his contract in June, meaning it’d be pretty low risk.

Further, given he only celebrated his 24th birthday earlier this year, he has bags of time to develop and polish his skillset in East London.

Capped at senior level by Spain, Miranda is well-seasoned at the highest level and would provide stiff competition to Emerson.

The only downside of pursuing the deal would be the possible saga attached, as there will be plenty of suitors fighting for his signature.

Anyhow, The Hammers can put themselves in pole position if they can make a late run for the European spots, as Premier League football paired with the UEFA Conference or Europa League would be a proposition to good to turn down.
