Neuroscientist's three supplements he'd take for 'better' night's sleep and brain health

A good night’s sleep promotes brain health in addition to several other benefits, but falling asleep can be tough on some unlucky days.

A neuroscientist researching brain health and Alzheimer’s has shared three supplements to sleep better. Dr. Robert Love says sleeping well is necessary for a sound mind as most of the cleansing happens when you’re asleep.

Three supplements to sleep better

According to the neuroscientist, the glymphatic system in the brain helps wash over the organ in sleep.

The overnight process helps flush out toxins and plaque accumulated in the brain. Therefore, he suggests three supplements that are “great” for your brain health.

Lion’s Mane

Lion’s Mane is a medicinal mushroom said to be beneficial for overall health and inflammation. Robert Love claims research has shown that it “protects the brain and helps grow new cells.”

Several reports show that Lion’s mane can enhance your sleeping experience by improving the quality of sleep and causing vivid dreams. However, it doesn’t have similar effects on everyone as far as dreams are concerned, says the scientist. But you can count on it for good sleep.

Glycine

The second supplement recommended for brain health is Glycine – an amino acid that helps maintain the body temperature.

The neuroscientist suggests taking 1000 milligrams of it one hour before sleep and you’ll see a drop in your body temperature, which helps you sleep better.

He says colder surroundings allow you to sleep better while suggesting hot showers before going to bed so the body naturally cools down to reduce the temperature.

L-theanine

The third and last supplement recommended by Robert Love is L-theanine, found in green and black tea. This is said to have a soothing effect on the brain, thus improving the quality of sleep.

Dr. Robert Love is a neuroscientist, researcher, and educator with a huge fan following on social media. His work focuses on helping people prevent Alzheimer’s disease with science” and he’s the ” most watched neuroscientist on the planet,” according to his LinkedIn bio.

He’s currently leading a research team investigating a new FDA drug to help reverse Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.
