Famed Jersey Shore sunset spot getting new restaurant with spectacular views

One of the Jersey Shore’s most famous sunset viewing spots is getting a new restaurant currently under construction in Cape May County

The Fish House is expected to open during the 2024 summer season at the famed Sunset Beach in Lower Township and replaces The Grille, a quaint bayside eatery. The location just north of Cape May Point overlooks the Delaware Bay and the sunken wreck of the concrete ship SS Atlantus.

“Fish House enjoys a stunning natural setting overlooking the legendary Sunset Beach,” the restaurant’s website says. “Inspired by the Atlantic Ocean and culinary traditions, Fish House pays homage to beloved seafood shacks and soulful beach bars up and down the East Coast.”

The new restaurant will be located across the parking lot from Sunset Beach Gifts and mini-golf on Sunset Boulevard. The gift shop, which is near the historic World War II Lookout Tower used to spot ships entering Delaware Bay, hosts nightly sunset flag-lowering ceremonies during summer months to honor a veteran who has died.

According to the Fish House website, the new restaurant will serve fresh seafood, craft sandwiches and homemade local ice cream.

“The Fish House is going to be a beautiful addition to the beloved Sunset Beach,” the Hammers said on Thursday. “We look forward to the community creating memories over fresh seafood, craft sandwiches and delicious cocktails.”

The Fish House is the latest restaurant from Zest Restaurant Group owned by Ross and Lauren Hammer.

The company’s website notes that the duo have dabbled in many ventures including renovating homes and a food truck, but entered the restaurant industry in 2022 when they opened Taco Caballito on Beach Avenue in Cape May, an upscale modern Mexican restaurant with ocean views.

In addition to the Fish House, Zest Restaurant Group expects to open two other new restaurants including The Goat House and Port Marina, according to the company’s website. Port, which includes a full marina, is also in Lower Township along Cape May Harbor at the former Harbor View Restaurant and Bar. The restaurant, purchased by Zest in March, is currently under extensive renovations.

The couple also plans to open a farm stand called The Goat House this summer that will offer local produce and fresh meats to the community.
