Tottenham ready to sell £20m player to help fund move for Premier League giant

Tottenham Hotspur are expected to make midfield changes this summer as Ange Postecoglou continues to shape his squad in North London.

Postecoglou has hit some difficulties in recent times but his first season in the job should still be seen as an encouraging one.

The 4-0 defeat at Newcastle United followed up by a 3-2 home defeat to Arsenal… that’s a recipe no Tottenham manager wants to cook up.

Postecoglou finds himself in that boat right now though and he heads to Chelsea on Thursday night in need of a result.

Tottenham’s top four hopes are dwindling and the Australian will be desperate to get back to winning ways at Stamford Bridge.

It’s easy to forget that Postecoglou has only had two transfer windows as Tottenham boss and it will take time to mould his squad.

That will involve wheeling and dealing this summer and one player seems destined to move on.

Tottenham Hotspur ready to sell Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

Postecoglou went with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in midfield against Arsenal, turning to experience in an attempt to handle the likes of Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice.

Hojbjerg didn’t exactly have the best afternoon, heading into his own net to put Arsenal 1-0 up.

The Dane has started just seven Premier League games this season and just hasn’t been able to show that he can fit into ‘Angeball’.

Caught Offside now claim that Tottenham are ready to sell Hojbjerg for around £20million this summer.

It’s suggested that Tottenham want to sell Hojbjerg in order to help fund a move for Everton midfielder Amadou Onana this summer.

The Belgian is a huge presence in midfield but is often miscast as a defensive midfielder due to his size.

Onana’s best work comes when allowed to go from box to box, meaning he wouldn’t really be a like-for-like replacement in Postecoglou’s approach.

That is a fascinating rumour and maybe a sign that Tottenham’s midfield could look very different heading into next season.

The time is right for Hojbjerg to go

Tottenham will be keen to sell Hojbjerg this summer for the simple fact that he has one year left on his contract.

Spurs will not want to se Hojbjerg run down that final year and then leave for nothing in 2025.

Hojbjerg is an asset who could bring in valuable cash and £20million would actually be a small profit on the £15million Tottenham paid to sign the midfielder in 2020.

Now 28, Hojbjerg can’t really afford to be sat on the sidelines at Tottenham when he could be playing elsewhere.

Teams in the Premier League and around Europe will surely have an interest in signing Hojbjerg should he become available.

A parting of the ways seems the most likely development this summer and Hojbjerg may well be joined by Giovani Lo Celso in terms of Tottenham midfielders moving on for first-team action.
