Report: Crystal Palace now among favourites to sign former Barcelona prospect for free this summer

This summer is already looking like a busy one for Crystal Palace, now there’s been a link to one former Barcelona player.

Oliver Glasner will be chomping at the bit to begin his summer transfer window in a few weeks, with plenty of work to do at Selhurst Park.

For Dougie Freedman, it’s a pivotal window in which the new manager must be backed and he has to provide him with the players to achieve his goals.

Therefore it’s widely expected Crystal Palace will have a busy summer and now there’s another name linked with making a move to Palace.

The only question is who, and the latest name is one which would really grab attention.

Crystal Palace keen on Juan Miranda

The player that has been linked is Real Betis left-back Juan Miranda who is coming to the end of his contract this season in Spain.

A former Barcelona standout prospect, Miranda is a name many are familiar with and it’s little surprise that he’d be on Freedman’s list, as Estadio Deportivo reports.

Palace will face Premier League competition from West Ham, Brentford and Wolves, while there are several other interested clubs in Europe.

Signing the likes of Miranda for a position which already has a player like Tyrick Mitchell isn’t exactly a priority move, with his wages likely to be high given he won’t have a transfer fee.

So where does he actually fit in at Selhurst Park?

Where does Miranda fit in at Selhurst Park?

In terms of position, it’s fairly simple where he fits in, at left wing-back as he’s a perfect fit there. But considering he’d likely be looking for wages which are reserved for top players at Palace, he’d need to be a starter, otherwise it could wreck the wage structure.

Mitchell has impressed since Glasner arrived, even adapting to the more attack-minded role well which will have surprised many.

So considering his wage demands and the fact it’d be a struggle to see him settle for being a bench player, we think this move is unlikely.

But if he was willing to play a less important role, or Glasner wasn’t sold on Mitchell then this would be a steal of a free agent.
