"Don't be surprised": German football expert thinks 24-year-old could join Oliver Glasner at Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace have been linked with one exciting defender in recent weeks, now a German football expert has had his say.

For Oliver Glasner, this season has been all about laying the groundwork and deciding on where he needs to strengthen this summer.

So the fact he has Crystal Palace four games unbeaten is just a bonus and makes for an exciting feeling around Selhurst Park as we approach the summer.

Dougie Freedman is set to be busy as he looks to hand Glasner a squad he can compete with higher up the table going forward.

One position which is going to be a priority is a centre-back, with Marc Guehi looking likely to leave as the league’s richest circle.

Now one option has been tipped for Palace by an expert.

What has Kevin Hatchard said about Maxence Lacroix to Crystal Palace?

Taking to X, Bundesliga commentator and German football expert, Kevin Hatchard has shared his thoughts on the recent rumours drawing Wolfsburg’s Lacroix to Selhurst Park.

“Don’t be surprised if Crystal Palace make a move for Wolfsburg centre-back Maxence Lacroix in the summer.

“Only got a year left on his contract – played well previously under Oliver Glasner, quick, good tackler, decent technique in possession. Can be a bit rash, but is learning.”

Hatchard however did add this isn’t a scoop, but more a feeling he has for a deal which makes sense.

For Palace, signing a player of Lacroix’s quality in defence makes for a tantalising backline for Glasner.

How good could Oliver Glasner’s backline be next season?

If Lacroix arrives, it’ll be a move which lessens the blow of losing Guehi, in comparison to signing for example Ronnie Edwards who isn’t ready for the Premier League.

Lacroix is a readymade defender who could step right into Glasner’s back three alongside Joachim Andersen and also Chris Richards.

This backline looks so strong on paper, with all three being excellent defensively but also technically top-tier on the ball.

This allows the high-pressing game of Glasner to be implemented better than currently even given the shapeshifting it’s seen in recent weeks through injury.

Probably the best option which has been mentioned so far, so hopefully this is the one Freedman goes for.
